YES. You can definitely ceramic coat a matte or satin paint finish and get the same benefits. The biggest question or concern is "Will it change the look?" The answer is if you us non matte specific coatings, yes, they will change the look. Many detailers will say things like yes their coatings are "safe" or "compatible" or that they will only "enhance" the look.

Yes the coating made for glossy paints are "safe" for matte paint which means they won't "ruin" the paint however that doesn't mean it won't change the look. The truth is that most coatings are made to add extra shine to the paint which is something you want with glossy paint. Not so much with matte or satin. While the change is typically minor, if you spent money for a matte vehicle, why would you want to change it at all? If you apply the coating on matte paint you essentially change it to satin (or begin to). If the paint is satin you begin to change it to semi-gloss. Yes it will likely still look good, do you really want that change?

The other major problem is that if you get a glossy paint coating installed on matte paint, most coating brands will not guarantee the coating will last as it would on glossy paints. Will it still protect? Yes it likely will. You just can't be sure for how long.

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT GET A CERAMIC COATING

• You love to go through automatic tunnel washes (especially ones that physically slap your car). These washes 110% scratch your paint. We don't care what they say or have on their signs. THEY ARE LYING if they claim they are "scratch-free". If you are going to spend good money to perfect and protect your vehicle, why throw all that money away by reversing all that work after sometimes even a single visit to a tunnel wash?? You can typically get away with "touchless" automatic washes but even these should really only be used when in a pinch.
• You like to wax or use a polish yourself on weekends. We get it. You love your car but when you get a coating you don't want to apply any kind of other protection (wax/sealant) on top of it. This won't hurt the coating but you will cover up the wonderful properties of the coating and replace them with the properties of that lower grade protection. Any polishing can also remove or strip away the coating.
• You don't like to maintain your vehicle at all. If you know you simply hate the thought of washing and drying your car by hand or know you just don't ever have the time, coatings are likely not for you. Even though coatings are amazing and give awesome protection, there is no coating in existence that is "hands off" that will allow you to not maintain it and still look and perform as intended. Think of coatings as wax on steriods. Not a suit of armor that can be abused and still hold up. Now having a coating is definitely better than nothing at all so if you want a coating even if you don't plan to maintain it, your vehicle will very likely still stay looking good for much longer than if it was completely unprotected.
